2020 Telling with Commentary

This story begins the calendar of the church year in Year B as the Gospel for the first Sunday in the season of Advent. It is sometimes called “The Little Apocalypse” (in contrast to the Book of Revelation) because Jesus reveals to a small group of his disciples “the last things.” He talks about the coming of the “Son of Man” also translated more literally as “The Human One.” Jesus describes a vision of the end of the age. Advent means “coming” and originally referred to the culmination of all things at Christ’s second coming.
