Telling the biblical stories to and from diversity

January is a good month for reflection on what would make the coming year meaningful and then resolving to do something about it. So here’s a suggestion:

  • Deepen your knowledge of the biblical tradition;
  • Connect with people across the centuries and around the world;
  • Plan now to attend the 2015 Festival Gathering of Biblical Storytelling in Washington D.C. on August 5-8.

“One Story, Many Voices” is the theme, Marvin McMickle is the keynote speaker, Acts of the Apostles is the epic telling. For more info, download the PDF brochure. To register, click here…

Can’t attend the FG? Join and get involved with the Network of Biblical Storytellers. It could go a long way toward making 2015 a meaningful and memorable year in your life. Click here to visit the NBS website…

Coming Soon: Messiah of Peace

What kind of messiah is Jesus? What kind of king is this child whose birth we just celebrated? How do we tell the story? These are questions addressed in Tom Boomershine’s forthcoming commentary on the passion, death, and resurrection of Jesus according to Mark. Tom’s commentary has been over 40 years in the making and is due to come out early this year. The Messiah of Peace is the very first detailed commentary using the emerging interpretive paradigm of performance criticism. It will be accompanied by video recordings of live tellings in both English and Greek.

According to Google Analytics, the GoTell story page that had the most number of visits from July through September was…roll the drums please…”Dealing with Conflict” (a.k.a. “How to Be Together”; a.k.a. “Reproving Another Who Sins”; a.k.a. Matthew 18:15-20).

Now we wonder why that was the most visited story page? Maybe a tough passage to understand, or maybe that last line is a favorite quote from Jesus: For where two or three are gathered in my name, I am there among them.
