A Spirit-Led Telling that Surprised the Teller and Amazed the Congregation

A couple of months ago, Joanne Rouse-Clark learned the story of the Pharisees warning Jesus about Herod, Jesus’ responses to them, and his lament for Jerusalem (Luke 13:31-35). We recorded it at the February meeting of “CinDay” (our regional biblical storytelling group) and Joanne submitted it for inclusion on the Network of Biblical Storytellers Video Library.

It was the Gospel lesson on March 16 for churches who follow the lectionary in worship, as does her church. When Joanne arrived on Sunday morning, she was asked to read the scripture. She readily agreed, and was pleasantly surprised when she saw that it was the scripture she had just recorded for the NBSI library.

Feeling God’s Spirit leading her instead of reading it, she told it. She amazed the congregation who thought she had learned it on the spot! What fun it can be to learn by heart the Word of God. Thanks be to God!
