Fashion Show, NBS Style

Amelia Boomershine

When Tom and I went to Cameroon three years ago I met Emilia Soren who attended our event in Mutengene. We had the same name and are both tall, so we figured we were soul sisters.

Emilia hosted Nancy Rice and myself at her house church on Sunday morning where we told stories to adults and children. Sunday afternoon, while braiding my hair, she taught me songs that I regularly use in both Children’s Worship and Circle of the Word. A seamstress who ministers to many children, teaching them to sew and teaching them biblical stories, Emilia made clothing for Tom and me which we brought home as special reminders of a wonderful trip.

This past winter we were surprised when Sharon Davis, a missionary from Chicago who makes frequent trips to Cameroon, brought home new outfits from Emilia for us. Every year at the NBS Festival Gathering in early August Juliana Rowe gives a report on the international dimensions of the Network of Biblical Storytellers, International. As part of her report, those of us who have participated in biblical storytelling mission trips to other countries are invited to wear clothing from those countries. You can see from our happy faces in the photo below that we enjoyed showing off Emilia’s handiwork in this year’s annual NBS fashion show.
