A Capital Event in Our Capitol City

This is THE international conference for biblical storytelling featuring…

  • Dynamic workshops for beginners through master storytellers
  • Inspiring keynote presentations
  • World-class performances of both sacred and traditional storytelling
  • Connecting with other storytellers from all over the world

There are story-telling and story-listening opportunities all day, and long into the night for those with stamina. Each evening ends with our “Lighting the Fire” time of sharing where anyone who wants to can get up and share a story in a warm, supportive environment.

We hope you will join us in DC for FG 2017. For more info and to register, visit the Network of Biblical Storytellers at nbsint.org

Improving Your Storytelling: Breath

by Pam Faro

Intentional, deep, consciously-done breathing. It does So Many Things for a storyteller, whether “exercised” in preparation (as in yoga, meditation, breathing exercises), or “utilized” during the telling.

You know your breath powers your voice. Remember it also fuels every cell of your body, which is your storytelling instrument. Breathing stretches and massages your muscles and nerves, which improves the myriad physical aspects of storytelling.

Breathing also gives you time…Ah, time! Time for visualization, for accessing and deepening your internal imagery. It creates meaningful and engaging silences ‘midst all your words. Even helps you remember what happens next.

Learning to not take it for granted, but consciously embracing the life-giving power of breath for storytelling – was one of the most fruitful and powerful developments in my storytelling journey.

This tip for improving your storytelling is reprinted with permission from “Scholarly Musings” published online by the Network of Biblical Storytellers. This month’s tip comes to you from Pam Faro—professional storyteller, musician, speaker, workshop and retreat leader. Tom’s Writings Now on GoTell.org

The Writings section of gotell.org now hosts both published and unpublished writings of Tom Boomershine. (Some of the “writings” are transcriptions of oral presentations.) This material was formerly archived on a separate site, tomboomershine.org. We decided to move it for easier access and administration.

Here are a few of the gems you will find there:

Published in The Earlhamite magazine of Earlham College, Volume 108, Number 3, Summer 1988

The Media Failure of Religious Liberals

Digital Biblical Storytelling: Calling or Contradiction?
Published in The Biblical Storyteller, Volume 21, No. 1, January/February 2003.
