Ray Aldred on Story

You can’t really tell a story until you look at it from at least four different directions.

Hence, four Gospels.

I recently came across some notes I took from a presentation by Ray Aldred during the Festival of Biblical Storytelling in April this year (sponsored by the Network of Biblical Storytellers Canada). His talk was so mesmerizing I couldn’t stop watching to write much, so my notes are sparse, but I did capture this wonderful quote:

Some truths are so big they can only be held in a story.

Ray is the Interim Academic Dean and Director of the Indigenous Studies Program at the Vancouver School of Theology, whose mission is to partner with the Indigenous Church around theological education. He is currently teaching an online Master Class on Canadian Indigenous Realities and the Canadian Church. Below is one of his YouTube presentations. This one is about cross-cultural communication.

Monday with Jesus: What Must I Do?

Each Monday we email a message with resources for the upcoming Sunday Gospel story as designated by the Revised Common Lectionary. It includes a link to a YouTube video of the story being told followed by Q&A style casual commentary. Below is a link to the video for Sunday, October 10 (for those who follow the lectionary) on “What Must I Do?” (Mark 10:17-31). If you want to be on the elist to receive these emails, send me a message: amelia@gotell.org
